Scope of the playground safety inspection:

The play equipment will be inspected against ASTM F1487 and CPSC Handbook for Public Playgrounds guidelines. Any equipment that is not in compliance will be reported in this inspection report. Any items that the inspector finds to be compliant but may need to be monitored will also be noted.

 

 

 

 

 

The use zone for the composite structure was less than nine inches in depth. The transfer platform was seven inches above surface material.

CPSC 2.4.2.2 Loose-fill surfacing materials

Never use less than 9 inches of loose-fill material.

Shallower depths are too easily displaced and compacted.

Transfer platforms are to be between 11-18 inches

 

The composite structure had rust on several areas of the equipment.

Metals subject to structural degradation such as rust or

corrosion shall be painted, galvanized, or otherwise treated.

Woods shall be naturally rot- and insect-resistant or treated to

avoid such deterioration. Plastics and other materials that

experience ultraviolet (UV) degradation shall be protected

against ultraviolet light.

 

 

One of the bucket swings had some rust on the lower hardware.

Inspector’s comments:

The use zone for the composite structure needs to be raked and if needed have material added to have a minimum depth of nine inches. The transfer platform should be brought into compliance. The rusted equipment on the composite structure should be treated if possible or the equipment replaced. The rusted swing hardware should be treated or replaced.
